how does your family grow?

i love these family trees from cozy blue.

when i was home recently, my mom and i re-read a family history written by my great uncle, eugene. it detailed the story of his grandparents (my great, great grandparents), david and nanno o'neill, both born in ireland in the 19th century. nanno was 15 when she married david, 45 - a man 30 years her senior so poor her rich family disowned her.  they came to the united states with nothing- and went on to have 15 children, 11 of whom survived to adulthood.

david lived to be 92 and nanno 65.

interestingly, nanno's family name was also o'neill [which, saved the trouble of changing the credit cards, driver's license etc when they married]

the coat of arms for o'neill clan of ireland shows a bloody hand and legend says an o'neill once cut off his hand and threw it ashore to beat another explorer to a claim. [which i'm certain was a pair of louboutins and a tiffany necklace for his wife's birthday]
